What About AP BJP Leaders?
By: Tupaki Desk | 31 May 2019 4:29 AM GMTAndhra Pradesh, the state where the BJP failed to secure deposit in even one constituency, has naturally been given a short shrift in the Cabinet jig. In 2014 too, the BJP, which had two MPs, could not get a berth. Only Venkaiah Naidu was made a minister from Karnataka quota. He was later removed from active politics in a deft move and was made to sit on the ceremonial vice-presidential throne.
This time around, the situation is worse. The party failed to win even a single seat either in the Assembly or in Parliament. So, none was given a place in the Union Cabinet. Though the likes of Somu Virraju, Kambhampati Haribabu or Vishnukumar Raju had fought hard within and without the legislatures and Kanna Lakshminarayana had braved physical assaults, the party fared badly at the hustings. Thu, there are no ministerial berths for anyone.
The real reason, according to some highly placed sources, for ignoring AP altogether are different. The BJP national leadership was deeply upset at the disturbing reports that some BJP leaders were in cahoots with the TDP, while the others were hand in glove with either the Jana Sena or the YSRCP. Hence, Modi did not even consider giving any ministerial post to anyone. In Telangana, however, Kishan Reddy was given a place in the Modi government. Though the likes of Raghuram and Vishnuvardhan Reddy feel that the AP BJP will regain the pride of place soon, this appears to be a distant dream. If the same trend continues, the party may not pick pace even in 2024.
