Normal Crime Goes Down, But Cyber Crime Spikes Up
By: Tupaki Desk | 22 April 2020 5:59 AM GMTCorona may have pinned us down to our homes and may have restricted our escapades. Life sure is very tough under lockdown. But, there definitely is some silver lining on the cloud. There are some positives too.
For instance, across the country, crime rate is coming down significantly. The National Capital of Delhi is witnessing peace and security. With people not coming out, the crimes have also come down. Official statistics say that from April 1 till April 15, only 2574 cases were registered in Delhi. What more? Only 66 of them are actually very severe crimes. The remaining are petty crimes. The police say that the number of murders, rapes and other such serious crimes is very few. There were a whopping 10579 cases registered during the same period last year. This shows that the cases have come down by 80 per cent.
But, worrisomely, the number of online frauds and cyber crimes is going up during the lockdown. The hackers seem to be having a field day and are siphoning off funds from various accounts. The police have sounded caution while doing online transactions.
