Not Playing Against Pak In World Cup Hurts India
By: Tupaki Desk | 21 Feb 2019 12:26 PM GMTAfter the Pulwama Terror Attack in which 40 CRPF Jawans were killed, BCCI decided to write a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) seeking ban on Pakistan in World Cup events. A communication has been sent to BCCI CEO Rahul Johri by CoA Chairman Vinod Rai in this regard.
ICC ODI World Cup is scheduled to begin on May 30th in England and Wales. India-Pakistan Match is scheduled to happen on June 16th in Manchester.
Following the terror attack, BCCI and Other Cricket Associations removed the photographs of Pakistani Cricketers from the premises of the stadiums in India. Former Cricketers Sourav Ganguly, Harbhajan Singh and Chetan Chauhan has given a call for boycotting Pakistan in World Cup.
Whereas, Sunil Gavaskar feels India alone will be at the losing end by not playing against Pakistan in the World Cup. He explains, 'Pakistan will receive two points without even playing the match if India is reluctant to play. India has beaten Pak in every World Cup encounter. So, We could ruin their chances of winning World Cup by defeating in the Group Stage itself. If the Govt decides not to play against Pak, I will support the decision for sure'.
A BCCI Official says, There is no constitutional or contractual way to ban Pakistan from World Cup.
