Now, KCR readies for "cooperative" wars
By: Tupaki Desk | 30 Jan 2020 3:59 AM GMTTelangana CM KCR is fast turning out to be an election machine. He has been winning one election after another in the state. After a massive victory in the urban local body elections, he has now trained his guns on the elections to the cooperative bodies in the state. The elections to the primary agricultural cooperative societies are likely to be held soon. The notification would be issued in a couple of days and the whole process would be completed in just 15 days. This means that by February end, the PACS will have new governing bodies.
Interestingly, the term of the present bodies was over in 2018 itself. But, the government did not hold the elections all these days. After the civic body election results, the TRS feels that it can register a facile win in these elections and wants to have the elections before the opposition can gather its wits and stage a comeback. Currently, the Government has appointed persons-in-charge for the cooperatives and had extended their term for four times. This time around, KCR wants to have elected bodies for them.
Originally, the state had 906 PACS for 584 mandals. But after the number of the mandals was increased, there are 81 mandals without even a single PACS. In about 272 mandals, there is only one PACS per mandal. Hence KCR has raised the number of PACS by 434, thus taking the total number of PACS to 1340. By winning these PACS, KCR hopes to further tighten his grip on Telangana.
