NRI Marriages Must Be Registered Within 7 Days

Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad met Today to find legal solutions for the issues faced by women in connection with NRI Marriages. The above decision was taken within days after Maneka Gandhi informed about the proposal of setting a time frame to register NRI Marriages.
Union Ministers also discussed about the proposal to seize the properties of NRI Offenders. Escrow is a legal procedure in which a Third Party will hold an asset or financial instrument on behalf of two other parties. For using Escrow, Three legislations (Code of Criminal Procedure, Marriage Act and Passports Act) should be amended. A direction has been given to the three ministers to formulate a draft legal amendments.
Dealing with NRI Offenders has become a big concern for Centre. Growing number of cases prompted the Union Government to introduce stringent laws.
