Tragic Story behind NTR's Rare Photo
By: Tupaki Desk | 1 Oct 2016 11:29 PM GMTThe above photograph was shot when former CM late NT Rama Rao was exercising his right to vote during mid-term polls on March 5th, 1985.
During the first election (January 5th, 1983) after Telugu Desam was floated, NTR came to the polling booth in Abids along with his wife Basavatharakamma. TDP won win record majority then and NTR became Chief Minister.
The very next year, NTR has gone to USA for by-pass surgery and even his wife had undergone medical tests. It was then she was diagnosed with Cancer and it was in the fourth stage. Soon after he returned to AP, Nadendla revolted against him. These two were the biggest blows in his glorious career. Basavatharakamma (59) breathed her last at 6.15 PM in Madras on October 1st, 1984.
For the voting during mid-term polls, NTR alone came to the polling booth. TDP won in 202 out of 250 Assembly segments. Huge majority was recorded in the segments (Hindupur, Gudiwada, Nalgonda) where the TDP Founder contested.
