How NTR Helped Karunanidhi Regain Power?
By: Tupaki Desk | 8 Aug 2018 7:18 AM GMTKarunanidhi maintained good relations with NTR. Film Background & having similar views on the rights of States made them closer.
Both NTR and Karunanidhi had worked collectively to unite Opposition Parties against the dominant Congress. They held a huge meeting in Chennai with the parties which were part of National Front in 1987. All the Anti-Congress Leaders had attended the huge public meeting and rally. NTR and Karunanidhi enthralled the large gathering with their power-packed speeches. That is when NTR was appointed as the Convenor of the National Front.
It's because of their friendship, NTR campaigned for DMK during the 1988 Assembly Polls in Tamil Nadu. Despite being the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh during that period, He took part in the public meetings at Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli and Coimbatore. DMK emerged victorious in the election and regained power after a decade (lost power to MGR-led AIADMK in 1977). This could be the reason why Karunanidhi was always curious to know about what's happening in AP.
