NTV pips past TV 9 in ratings, ABN slumps further

The news that TV 9 is no longer the most viewed channel has now become a hot topic of discussion in both political and media circles. The latest BARC ratings, which were released after a gap of a year-and-a-half, have shown that N TV now tops the table piping past the TV 9. What's more worrying for the TV 9 establishment is that the gap between the No 1 and No 2 is very wide.

Interestingly, politician Gaddam Vivek's V 6 and TV 5 stood third and fourth. Another shocking trend is that media baron Radhakrishna's ABN has sunk to seventh rank after Sakshi and T News. Similarly, ETV, which never hankers for ratings, is way below 10 TV, HM TV and Maha News.

Media watchers say that TV 9 is pro-TRS in Telangana and pro-Jagan in Andhra. Thus it has stopped playing a significant role in exposing the shortcomings of the state governments. They are no longer seen as the real opposition to those in power. This, according to sources, has affected the overall ratings of the channel. Sources say this is bad news for TV 9 CEO Rajanikanth. A worried CEO is said to be conducting surprise visits and is said to be giving an earful to all those who care to listen.

The massive slump of ABN in the TRPS too is being attributed to its blind support to the TDP. The credibility of the channel, according to reports, has fallen considerably. The NTV has appeared to be neutral. Hence the audience has shifted to the channel. V 6's good show is also being attributed to its quality content and pro-BJP attitude.
