Your Sins won't be cleansed: EC to Defector MLAs
By: Tupaki Desk | 20 Aug 2017 6:27 AM GMTIn Telugu States, Over 40 Opposition MLAs have shifted loyalties to the Ruling Parties in the past three years. They neither resigned to their posts nor contested by-election so far.
Election Commissioner OP Rawat termed this practice as an immoral trend which is degrading the politics in the country. 'Free, Fair & Transparent Elections is what that thrives Democracy. Unfortunately, Poaching MLAs using Money or intimidating Lawmakers with the help of Power is being seen as a smart political management. The Defector MLA who jumps into the Ruling Party is of the feeling that all of his/her sins will be cleansed,' he opined.
OP Rawat made these comments during a meeting of Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) meant to discuss Election & Political Reforms need to be implemented.
Anti-Defection Law hasn't been implemented though numerous MLAs and MPs have been shifting parties for money and posts. It's high time Election Commission introduces a new rule making by-election mandatory for Lawmakers who shift parties.
