Tokyo summer Olympics 2021 got underway and the Indian contingent has gotten off to a bright start. Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won silver for the country in women's 49 KG weightlifting category.

The 26-year-old athlete lifted a total of 202 kilos(87kg + 105kg). She is the second Indian weightlifter after Karnam Malleswari to win medal at the games.

" I am really happy on winning silver medal in #Tokyo2020 for my country," Chanu wrote on Twitter after winning the medal in weightlifting category.

Wishes have been pouring in for the young athlete after her commendable achievement.

" Could not have asked for a happier start to @Tokyo2020! India is elated by @mirabai_chanu's stupendous performance. Congratulations to her for winning the Silver medal in weightlifting. Her success motivates every Indian," the prime minister Narendra Modi said.

#MirabaiChanu," the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Jagan Mohan Reddy wrote.

" We're happy that she got the first medal for India. We expected her to win a gold medal but we are happy that she won the silver medal. She has made us and the whole country proud of her, say Saikhom Tombi and Saikhom Kriti, parents of," Chanu's parents told national media portal ANI.
