It's been nearly two years since we have been fighting the contagious Coronavirus pandemic.2020 was a tough period for the entire world with almost everything around us coming to a standstill. All the countries across the globe made travel guidelines stricter and forced the public in the respective countries to be indoors.

Now the world is bracing itself for the Omicron variant of Covid which was detected in South Africa recently. To understand more about its characteristics, a study was conducted on the Omicron variant of Covid. The outcome of the study had stunned one and all.

The study said that the Omicron variant grows more than 70 times in the lungs compared to the Delta variant. However, the authors of the study said that though Omicron gets multiplied in big numbers, it is severe than the Delta variant of Coronavirus.

The study was conducted by the researchers at the LKS Faculty of Medicine at The University of Hong Kong (HKUMed) in a way that lung tissue was used after the isolation process of the Omicron lineage of Covid. Later, the findings were compared to that of the Coronavirus causing SARS-CoV-2 and the Delta variant, which triggered massive jumps in the Covid infections across the globe.

The researchers have found that compared to the SARS-CoV-2 virus and Delta variant, the Omicron variant spreads rapidly as the virus multiplies at a rapid pace. The data was collected 24-hours after the virus was infected. The researchers are attributing the multiplication of the virus to the high rate of transmission.

Giving more information on the transmission of the virus, an Associate Professor at a popular educational institution said that how the immune system of the infected person responds after getting infected will also play a key role in the virus severity.

Adding further, the Associate Professor predicted that there are high chances for the Omicron variant of Coronavirus to pose a big threat. Stressing the high transmission rate that comes with the newly detected Omicron variant of Coronavirus, the Professor said the severe the virus variant gets, the higher the chances of the casualties will be. So we can’t ignore the new variant.
