One party.. four groups... this is the story of Khammam
By: Tupaki Desk | 17 Jun 2022 12:18 PM GMTThe ruling TRS is a house divided in the all-important Khammam district. The party is mainly divided between four major groups. Two of them are led by Puvvada Ajay and Nama Nageswara Rao, both in positions of power. The other two are led by two leaders, who are out of power. They are former minister Tummala Nageswara Rao and former MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy.
Though these four leaders are a picture perfect of bonhomie in public, they are grinding their own axes in private. Each is spitting at the other. They are trying to get one up on the others. Cash-rich Nama is able to buy support with money power, while Ajay is accused of using his ministerial position to win the people to his side.
Though TRS internal surveys say that the party is likely to win four seats quite easily, many suspect that the internal squabbles could hit the party hard. They are worried that one leader might undercut the other. As for Tummala and Ponguleti, getting a party ticket and winning it are of crucial importance. Otherwise, they would simply sink into oblivion.
With both the Congress and the BJP trying to improve their influence, the TRS is facing a serious challenge. If all the four factions of the TRS do not come together, then the party is in for a troublesome period, warn political analysts. Are the TRS bosses listening?
