In a shocking incident, As much as Rs 1.15 crore of banned Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes have been looted from Odisha Gramya Bank's branch in Dhenkanal.

As per cops, Bank Officials came to know about the missing cash when they opened the iron box two days weekend holiday. Rs 1.15 crore out of total Rs 8 crore worth defunct Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes were found in the box. Whereas, Close to Rs 7 crore stored in the strong room remained untouched.

Dhenkanal SP Basant Kumar Panigrahi says such huge amount of cash can't go missing without the role of an insider. He claims CCTV Footage is being examined to trace the culprits.

There is every possibility of the people involved in the crime trying to exchange the old currency in the banks by luring the poor or deposit them in the accounts of benamis. Hope, Cops catch them before its too late.
