Former Finance Minister P Chidamabaram ridiculed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over making an announcement on India's Anti-Satellite Missile. 'Any Wise Government would have kept this capability of India as a secret. It's utter foolishness to disclose a defence secret. What is the intention of NDA Government behind making such an announcement?,' he questioned.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has proudly declared that India has become a space power by shooting down a satellite orbiting at 300 kms. India is only a fourth nation in the World to demonstrate anti-satellite missile capability. Earlier, US, Russia and China had done such tests successfully.
Chidambaram asked why NDA Government made Anti-Satellite Missile announcement ahead of the 2019 Elections. He termed it as an attempt to boost the shrinking poll prospects of BJP.
Based on a complaint, Election Commission constituted a committee to examine whether or not PM Narendra Modi's address to the nation over anti-satellite mission violated the Model Code of Conduct.
