Know why did Pawan Kalyan not contest in 2014? If Pawan is to be believed, it is because Chandrababu told him that if he contested, there would be a division of votes and the YSRCP would get benefited. So, he promised Rajya Sabha seats and asked Pawan to support the TDP, which Pawan did.
But, who was to become a Rajya Sabha MP? According to Pawan Kalyan, who on Sunday spoke at a function in Chiru's presence, the RS seat was not for him, but for his brother Chiranjeevi. Chiru's term was coming to an end and he wanted to have another term in Rajya Sabha. So, the deal was that the BJP would field Chiru. But, this could not happen. With Pawan's revelation, Chiru, who bade good bye to politics and is focused fully on films, is now being dragged into an unseemly controversy. Chiru finds himself in a piquant position thanks to Pawan's comments. Will Chiru respond or not is not known.
But, this whole episode shows Pawan Kalyan's brand of politics. For someone who wants to change the society, why should Pawan waste four years doing nothing? Why is now getting so very active while he did noting all these years? If he had stopped contesting on the request of Chandrababu, will he not contest if Modi requests him? Is his fight meant just for one or two Rajya Sabha seats? What is clear is that he is losing has credibility very fast.
