Mehbooba set to be first woman CM of J&K
By: Tupaki Desk | 7 Jan 2016 1:52 PM GMTJammu Kashmir is going to have first lady Chief Minister. Ruling PDP President Mehbooba Mufti is set to be the first woman Chief Minister of the state succeeding her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who passed away on Thursday due to organ failure.
Mehbooba was unanimously elected by PDP legislators. The party delegation met the Governor N N Vohra at Raj Bhavan and handed over the letter which says that they supports Mehbooba's canditaure as 13th Chief Minister of the state.Mehbooba, who is currently serving as Lok Sabha member started her political career in 1996 by joining Congress along with her father.
In 2004, Mehbooba contested and won her first Lok Sabha election from Anantnag. In 2008, she contested Assembly polls and was elected from Wachi segment. In May 2014, she was yet again won Lok Sabha polls from Anantnag. Mehbooba played a key role in her father's victory as Congress candidate in Lok Sabha elections of 1998. She is a mother of two daughters. Several times Mufti Mohammad Sayeed hinted his daughter makes a better choice of CM as she's more connected socially with the people.
