Why Petrol? Buy Electric Cars: Union Minister

Centre is unable to reduce the Fuel Prices despite nationwide protests. Instead of taking measures to bring down the prices of petrol, NDA Government is blaming the people for relying more on such fuels.
Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari commented, 'Why do you make a hue & cry over petrol. Can't you live without petrol? Use alternate transportation and fuels. Electric Cars have come. Why do you create a scene?'.
What does Nitin Gadkari mean? Should people stop using bikes and cars being operated using petrol and diesel all of a sudden? Is that practically possibly? This situation wouldn't have arised had if electric vehicles revolution was planned in India soon after NDA formed government in 2014.
Few months ago, Nitin Gadkari declared India's transformation will happen in 5 years due to the transition to clean fuels and electric vehicles. Does that mean NDA Govt does nothing to reduce fuel prices until then?
