PETA Approaches Animal Welfare Board on cock fighting!

Its festive season as the Sankranti, one of the major Hindu festivals in south India had started. The Three-day long festival is celebrated in a grand manner. Cock fighting is famous in a few regions like two Godavari districts and the Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh.
However, ahead of the Sankranti festival, the Union Government had written a letter to Andhra Pradesh urging them to keep a vigil on cockfighting to ensure that no such activities will take place for the festival. The letter was written by the Centre as a response to the complaint received.
Going into detail, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) had approached the Animal Welfare Board saying that cockfighting activities might be reported from the state and hence more docs should be kept in the matter.
Reacting to the complaint, the Welfare Board had written to the AP DGP to look into the matter and make sure that no activities will take place. The PETA said that news of arrangements for the cockfighting came to their notice and stressed the same with the Animal Welfare Board.
The body that fights for the rights of the animals said that the way the cockfight is held in the state is not only dangerous for the cocks but also people around it as knives are tied to cocks that take part in the fighting.
