Following the tradition of the Supreme Court, the senior judge in the top court Justice DY Chandrachud is all set to take up the Chief Justice post. He is slated to take oath as the top judge in the nation on the 9th of this month. Ahead of this, a sensational petition was filed with the Apex Court.

The petition seeks directives to not make Justice DY Chandrachud, the Chief Justice Of India. However, the Supreme Court dismissed the petition and dubbed the plea "misconceived". The bench said that there is no merit in the petition.

The petition was filed by one Mursalin Asijit Shaikh who works as a lawyer filed the petition and alleged that he denied justice to the litigants on not less than 12 occasions. He also alleged that Justice Chandrachud passed orders for his son's client without serving notice to the other parties.

However, the bench comprising current Chief Justice UU Lalit, Justices S Ravindra Bhat, and Bela M Trivedi said that there is no merit in the petition and canceled the petition.

This is not the first time a Chief Justice candidate faced such a letter. The previous Chief Justice Of India NV Ramana also went through the same. AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had written to the Collegium asking the body to not make Ramana the Chief Justice of India.
