Political parties get ready for Singareni battle
By: Tupaki Desk | 1 Sept 2021 5:00 AMPolitics have suddenly hotted up in the coal belt area in Telangana. With the elections for the recognised employees union set to take place in October-November, the political parties have suddenly become active. They are taking up the issues of the employees and are planning to have a series of agitational programmes all through September.
The employees unions are trying to take up issues such as 10 per cent HRA, suitable jobs for the staff members declared unfit, 35 percent of profits to be given to the employees and others. The Left-backed AITUC has decided to take out a bus yatra across the Singareni collieries site areas. The Congress-led INTUC too has chalked out a series of programmes from September 3. The BMS, CITU and other unions too are working hard to reach out to the employees. The BMS will start dharnas and protests from September 3, while the CITU is working to prepare an action plan.
The election to the employees union assumes significance as it reflects the mood of the coal belt. The collieries employees influence the outcome in at least 21 assembly constituencies in the North Telangana region. These elections will also have a bearing on the voting in 2023 assembly elections. TRS leader Kavitha Kalwakuntla is already camping in the area and is trying to influence the employees. She has been holding meetings with various groups in the region. Several TRS MLA and MLCs are already at work. The Congress has pitted Sitakka, who has deep experience in the collieries politics.
