GHMC Elections; Just 45 % Votes Polled

GHMC elections were concluded today evening and around 45 percent of over 74 lakh voters cast their votes in the Corporation elections. The voting percentage was improved by three percent from the 2009 elections. In 2009 only 43 percent people exercised their vote.

The hard efforts from Telangana State Election Commission and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) didn't showed any impact on voters and several people missed chance of voting again.

Disturbed by the low percentage of voting in the last polls GHMC along with association of several voluntary organisations, have vigorously conducted awareness programmes in the wards. But seems the result remains same.

"This time we expected more percentage of polling. But despite our hard efforts for over a month now, we could achieve only this result," Chief Election Returning Officer B. Janardhan Reddy after conclusion of GHMC elections adding one month is very less time to educate voters.
The results of GHMC elections will be declared on February 5. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be elected by the corporators-elect and ex-officio members on February 11.
