Ponguleti feels cheated after TRS issues Rajya Sabha candidates' list
By: Tupaki Desk | 19 May 2022 7:55 AM GMTOne person who is most disappointed with the TRS choice of Rajya Sabha candidates is former MP and senior leader Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. Ponguleti expected to be rewarded with a Rajya Sabha ticket this time. He had even held discussions with party working president KTR on the issue and was hopeful of getting the party ticket. But, when the list was out, Ponguleti was nowhere in the list.
Ponguleti, who had won on the YSRCP ticket in 2014, later joined the YSRCP along with three MLAs who had won on YSRCP ticket from Khammam district. Later, he joined the TRS. But at the time of the 2019 elections, he was asked to stand down for Nama Nageswara Rao. The TRS bosses told him that he would be suitably compensated for this sacrifice. But, three years after the 2019 elections, Ponguleti is a nowhere man.
He has neither a party position nor a position of political power. Of late, he has expressed his disenchantment several times, but to no avail. He had even sent feelers that both the Congress and the BJP were wooing him. Yet, KCR did not give him any key position. As a result, he is finding himself at the crossroads of his political career. He has no guarantee that the TRS would give him the ticket in 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Though there were rumour that he was joining the BJP or Congress, Ponguleti himself has not confirmed them. He has indicated that he would remain in the party. But, that was before the Rajya Sabha nominations. He was confident that he would be given a party ticket. Now that hope too has petered out, he is finding himself 'unwanted' in the TRS. He is quite disappointed at not being given the Rajya Sabha seat.
