The freedom struggle of India is one of the biggest revolutions the world has ever witnessed. People irrespective of their regions and identities came under one roof and fought for freedom from British colonial rule. Almost every region has a few personalities who actively encouraged others to come forward and become part of the fight.

Telugu land also has such personalities and Pingali Venkayya is one of them. The son of the soil was the one who designed the Indian national flag which we are using now. He designed the flag and the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi gave his nod for the design. At first, the grand old Congress party used to carry the flag, and later every Indian started using the flag.

Today marks the birth anniversary of the designer of the Indian national flag Pingali Venkayya. On this occasion, the Union government announced that a postal stamp on his name would be released as a bid to honour him. None other than Union Home Minister Amit Shah would unveil the postal stamp.

Though it is a good thing that the union government will honor him, most of the people from the northern belt don't know much about his personality. Sadly, many leaders and personalities in a few regions are not familiar with the people in other parts of the country.

With the union government releasing a postal stamp as an honour and his family members getting an invitation from the government to be present at the occasion, it is a hope that the whole nation will get to know about him.

The national flag of our country is very special to us and most people don't know about the designer of the national flag. The flag he designed played a big role in the freedom fighter. Freedom fighters and people used it as a symbol of patriotism during the freedom fight.

Pingali Venkayya hails from Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh. He was born on the 2nd of August in 1876. He went to South Africa in his early days and he got the name of 'Japan Venkayya', as he knows Japanese and he can speak fluently. Pingali breathed his last on the fourth of July in 1963. He was 86 when he pased away.
