Every time a new virus erupts it will badly affect the poultry industry. Sometimes it will take years of time for the industry to settle back. Back when the other serious viruses Anthrax and Chikungunya came to India the effect was clearly seen on the poultry industry mostly on chicken.

Many speculations have erupted that the Anthrax virus can be spread by taking meat leaving the industry in deep losses. The same happened with the Chikungunya virus at that time the situation became so worst that kilo chicken was sold at Rs 25.

Talking about the present situation the Poultry industry has witnessed a huge loss of around Rs 1,750 crore within just one month with fake news spreading in WhatsApp that coronavirus was spreading due to chickens.

"The repeated onslaught of social media with wrong information on consumers has shaken consumer confidence and depleted the demand for chicken products,"AIPBA Chairman Bahadur Ali said.

“The loss of broiler farmers, integration companies and breeding companies put together was about Rs 1,750 crore during the third week of January till the third week of February. It has created massive crisis and forced poultry sector to bankruptcy," he added.

"If these conditions persist in March going forward a loss of Rs 1,750 crore per month will be additional," he said.
