Following an hour-long emergency Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, The Union Cabinet decided to impose President's Rule in Uttarakhand. Immediately, Pranab Mukherjee has given his consent for the Centre.

This move by Centre just a day before Harish Rawat's Government will face the trust vote in State Assembly invited the wrath of Congress. Notably, President's Rule was imposed in Arunachal Pradesh only few weeks ago.

Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi described imposing President's Rule as Murder of Democracy. He alleged BJP stooped to new lows and questioned why didn't Centre allow voting on No Confidence Motion.

Crisis in Uttarakhand began after 9 MLAs revolted against Congress Government ruled by Harish Rawat. After Speaker issued a notice asking why they can't be disqualified under the anti-defection law, The Lawmakers released a sting operation video of Harish Rawat alleging that CM is indulging in the horse-trading to save his Government. On grounds that Governance has broken down in Uttarakhand, Centre has imposed the President's Rule with immediate effect.
