Replacing 86% of old currency with new notes in a country with 130 crore population is a massive exercise. On December 8th, Modi told demonetisation is for wiping out of black money, fake currency and terrorism. Post the cash crunch, Government began focusing on Cashless transactions without making necessary preparations in advance.

Chandrasekhar Goud placed an RTI Query seeking details of the printing cost of new Rs 500 and Rs 2000 currency notes. In reply, Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL) disclosed that Rs 3.09 and Rs 3.54 is being spent for printing of each Rs 500 and Rs 2000 notes respectively.

BRBNMPL issued a clarification that the expenditure for printing of new Rs 500 notes is equal to that of old currency with same denomination. Whereas, The printing cost of new Rs 2000 note matches with that of old Rs 1000 note.
