Nine Killed In Peru Prison Riot Over Coronavirus

The panicked inmates demanded and protested to get released as 600 prisoners got tested positive for the virus. The fear led the prisoners to commit violent acts to release them immediately.
Prisoners managed to climb to the roofs with the aim of preventing access by throwing stones and other blunt objects at the security. Along with that, they had burnt the cots in prison.
As per the report of the National Penitentiary Institute, nine killed, 60 prison guards, five police officers and two inmates were wounded in the unrest.
On the other side, Peru has 28,699 confirmed cases of coronavirus, the second highest number in Latin America, and 782 deaths.
