Prof. Kodanda Ploughs A Lonely Furrow
By: Tupaki Desk | 6 Oct 2020 3:37 AM GMTProf Kodandaram, who led the Telangana agitation as the convener of the Joint Action Committee,is fast learning that politics is a different ballgame altogether. The Congress, which used him during the Telangana agitation and during the 2018 elections, has decided not to support him. The party leaders, especially those from the non-Reddy communities, have strongly opposed any move to support him.
Finally, he decided to go it alone and began campaign on his own. He started touring Warangal and Nalgonda. It is here that he was in for a bigger shock. Many of the civil society leaders, who worked with him during the Telangana movement, had turned against him and started questioning his candidate on caste lines. This is a real shock for someone who did not believe in caste and removed his caste tag long ago.
The biggest shock was when Mana Party leader and civil society activist Dr Cheruku Sudhakar met him to ask him to back off from the contest and extend support to him. Sources close to Prof Kondandaram say that he had banked on Sudhakar's support. But, it turned out that Sudhakar himself is trying to contest. A shocked Kodanda is now fighting a lonely battle.
