Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi stopped from visiting Meerut
By: Tupaki Desk | 24 Dec 2019 10:12 AM GMTCongress party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi and former Congress President Rahul Gandhi were stopped by the police from going Meerut in Uttar Pradesh who are heading to meet the families of people who were killed in the protests against the Citizenship Act.
"We asked the police do you have any orders (in writing to stop us). They did not show us any orders but still turned us back," Rahul Gandhi said.
"They requested that only three people would enter the district so as not to violate any prohibitory orders under Section 144 that may be in force. But the permission was declined by local police officers," Rahul observed.
With Meerut being the most affected region till now at least 19 people lost their lives in the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act(CAA). Hundreds of people were arrested and many rioters were booked for damaging the public property.
