Gandhi, Nehru, Ambedkar were NRIs: Rahul

Rahul Gandhi is garnering the attention of people some way or the other during his ongoing tour of America. He declared India's freedom fighters are actually NRIs (Non-Resident Indian) and the Congress party was born due to the 'NRI Movement'.
Addressing close to 2,000 Congress Party's NRI Supporters in New York, Rahul Gandhi said: 'Mahatma Gandhi is an NRI. Jawaharlal Nehru came back from India, BR Ambedkar, Azad and Patel were all NRIs'.
The Congress Vice-President explained why he made such a statement. 'Each of these Freedom Fighters visited other parts of the World, came back to India, used some of those ideas to transform India'.
Rahul maintains contributions made by thousands of such NRIs are yet to be recognized. He cites the case of Verghese Kurien, who is the father of white revolution, as an example to his theory. 'It was Mr.Kurien who is responsible for the milk most India drink. He came from USA and transformed India,' he says.
Congress Prince described NRIs settled in America as the backbone of India. He claims to have spoken to people from all walks of life during his 14 day US Tour and most of them were concerned about the growing intolerance in the country.
