For the first ever time in the history of politics in Maharashtra, a member of the Balasaheb Thackeray family is contesting the elections. Aditya Thackeray, son of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray is contesting as an MLA from Worli seat.

Raj Thackeray, who has split from the Shiv Sena, has formed Maharashtra Navnirman Sena. So, there was a question whether he would put up a candidate against Aditya. To put at rest all these wild speculations, the MNS has officially announced that it would not contest against Aditya Thackeray. The statement said that this was being done to set at rest all speculations. Thackerays have never contested an election so far. Aditya is breaking this record.
