Assembly Seats to increase in Telugu States
By: Tupaki Desk | 23 March 2017 7:31 AM GMTThe issue of increase of Assembly Seats in AP and Telangana remains unresolved even after three years since bifurcation. Recently, Minister of State for Home Hansraj Gangaram told amendment to 170(3) is a must for increasing Assembly Constituencies and hence it can't be done till 2026.
The very day, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh declares the Bill seeking increase of Assembly Seats in Telugu States will be tabled during the Budget Session or in the Monsoon Session.
If the Bill gets the Parliament nod, Assembly Seats in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh increase from 119 to 153 and 175 to 225. This move would benefit the Ruling Parties in the Telugu States as they have wooed several Opposition MLAs. These parties could put an end to the group wars before 2019 Polls if this become a reality.
