The Ranji Trophy is all set to start in January next year. The 2020 and 2021 edition of the Ranji trophy was not held due to the novel Coronavirus.As per the schedule issued, the Ranji trophy will be started from the 5th of January in 2022.

It is said that, some of the big names in the tournament, Mumbai, Karnataka and Delhi were added in the Group C. The group also called as "group of Death" will comprise Hyderabad, Maharashtra and Uttarakhand.

The three teams, Mumbai, Karnataka and Delhi have been dominating the Ranji trophy since ages. The teams have also given some of the finest players to the Indian team.

Reports say that the tournament will start after the players undergo quarantine facility for five days, followed by a two-day long practice.

The teams were divided into six groups. Vidarbha, Haryana, Kerala, Tripura and Rajasthan were named in Group B. Group A will have Gujarat, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Services and Assam.

Looking at the other groups,Tamil Nadu, Railways, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand and Goa added in Group D. Andhra, Uttar Pradesh, Baroda, Odisha, Chattisgarh and Pondicherry will be in Group E.

Chandigarh, Meghalya, Bihar, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh were clubbed in the plate group.

The governing body of cricket in India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had picked Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Trivandrum and Chennai as the locations for the matches.

Kolkata has been reserved for the knockouts which are scheduled to start on February 20 after another round of five-day quarantine.

As per the reports, Kolkata will host the knockout matches of the Ranji trophy starting from the 20th of February. Before the knockouts, the players will have to complete quarantine for five days.

The quarter finals of the tournament will be played from 28th February to 3rd of March, followed by the semis from March 8 to 12. March 16-20 were locked for the finals.

The Ranji trophy has always been a valuable contributor to the Indian Cricket team. Several players have donned the Indian jersey after showing their prowess in Ranji trophy.
