RBI starts printing of Rs 200 Notes
By: Tupaki Desk | 29 Jun 2017 5:31 AM GMTReserve Bank of India began printing of currency notes of Rs 200 denomination. The work has started at one of the government-owned printing press already. New notes are equipped with advanced security features to avoid fake currency.
RBI took this move to ease day-to-day transactions of the consumers. Both Traders & Public faced hardships due to scarcity of lower denomination notes after demonetisation. Introduction of Rs 200 notes will certainly be a huge relief.
Prior to November 8th last year, Approximately 1,650 crore pieces of Rs 500 notes were in circulation. A huge gap existed since then as not that many new Rs 500 notes has come into the banking system. Often, People found it difficult to buy goods with Rs 2000 notes.
By June 9 this year, Rs 14.6 lakh crore currency is in circulation. This is still 18.4% less compared to what it was prior to Nov 8th, 2016.
