Venkaiah Promoted As VP @ Special Status?
By: Tupaki Desk | 26 July 2018 10:42 AM GMTThe role of M Venkaiah Naidu during the debate over Telangana Bill in Rajya Sabha before 2014 Polls can't be ignored. He was instrumental in making then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh offer a commitment on Special Category Status to AP. Who could forget how Venkaiah Naidu had proudly announced, 'Any how, BJP is going to form the next government. We are going to extend the Special Category Status benefits to AP for a period of 10 Years'.
Much to the shock of Venkaiah Naidu, Narendra Modi didn't feel the necessity to fulfill the promise after BJP obtained 2/3rd majority in Lok Sabha. All of his attempts to convince Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and Arun Jaitley hasn't yielded results.
Analysts say, Modi realized presence of Venkaiah Naidu, who hails from AP, as an MP or Minister in Parliament would irk his Government in the coming days. Hence, He decided to make Venkaiah the next Vice President of India so that none of the parties will be in a position to question him on the promise given to AP on the floor of the House in 2014. Though he isn't answerable to anyone, Venkaiah Naidu could feel the pain whenever debate happens in the Upper House on Special Category Status and AP Reorganisation Act 2014.
