Retired High Court Judge To Be Appointed As AP Election Commissioner

The AP government which is vexed by the State Election Commissioner(EC) Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar creating problems and obstacles in the state regarding the local body elections has removed him from the post with the powers allotted to the state.
In addition to that, the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy led government has brought an ordinance to appoint retired high court judge as to the new state election commissioner. This made happen with the Governor Vishwa Bhushan approving the amendments in the Panchayati raj Act-1994 section-200.
Under the amended Act, only a person who has held the office of a judge of the High Court will be eligible to be appointed as an SEC. Presently, those not lower than the rank of a principal secretary are eligible. The tenure of five years has also been brought down to three with the scope of extension by another three years.
Under the act, the tenure was reduced to three years from five years and as Ramesh Kumar has completed his tenure of three years he was removed and retired judge of Tamil Nadu High Court
With this, the state might witness the local body elections without any partiality and the entire process will be handled with utmost transparency. We should appreciate Jagan for taking this daring step in this regard.
