The financial situation of Andhra Pradesh always makes it to the news. Despite the big burden on the economy, the government is continuing its freebies as promised in the polls. The opposition parties and experts warned that the state might turn into another Sri Lanks and face a massive financial crisis.

Andhra Pradesh government saw another big critic in the form of retired IAS officer Dr. P.V. Ramesh, who had served as the Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister. Speaking to a leading daily, the former IAS had given a detailed insight on how the freebies will leave a heavy toll on the economy.

He said that there should be a limit on how much the government spends and this applies to both state and central government. He had opined that, based on the budget limitations, the expenditure should be done. The government should act as a trustee of the public money.

Shedding light on the power crisis in Andhra Pradesh, Dr. P.V. Ramesh had kept the blame on YSR, the former Chief Minister of combined Andhra Pradesh. He said that the free electricity scheme announced by YSR is now resulting in the power crisis and it took so many decades to understand the logic.

With strong usage of words, he had maintained that the government should stop giving money in the form of welfare schemes and this nonsense should be stopped at any cost. He said that the public should also understand this and the political parties should stop making over-the-top promises.

Citing the example of the European Nation Netherlands, P.V. Ramesh said that like how there will be a cap on the election promises during the campaigns such systems should be brought here also. On top of this, the parties and leaders who failed to implement the scheme should be barred from

His comments came at a time when many experts are warning that Andhra Pradesh might turn into Sri Lanka. A few Secretaries of the Union Government are believed to have raised their concerns about AP's situation during the meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It's high time that the government should take the matter seriously.
