Revanth Reddy: Is he the hero Congress is looking for?
By: Tupaki Desk | 6 July 2021 10:49 AM GMTRevanth Reddy's rise has been meteoric. His total political career could be around 15 years. In this short time, he has become the working president of two parties â the TDP and the Congress. Now, he is the chief of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee. His rise in the Congress within just four years is a miracle in itself.
In a party that is divided by rampant groupism and internal power struggles, Revanth's rise is nothing short of a miracle. He has been made the PCC chief overlooking the claims of dozens of senior leaders and long-time loyalists.
But Revanth himself seems bent on making his mark. The speed with which he is meeting and placating the party seniors is amazing. Not only that. He is also getting the Gandhi Bhavan renovated at frenetic speed. At the same time, he is trying to get his oath-taking broadcast live in TV and YouTube channels friendly to him. TV and newspaper ads are also flooding the media like never before. He has also invited Karnataka's former chief minister Siddaramaiah to his swearing-in. All these are giving an impression that Revanth is a man in a hurry.
Some of his detractors, especially the senior leaders, are commenting that Revanth is behaving as if he has become the chief minister of the state of Telangana. He has only become the PCC chief and he still has a long way to go become a CM, they are heard commenting. He needs to realize that the PCC chief post is a crown of thorns, they are saying.
Even perceptive political observers say that it is not going to be very easy for Revanth Reddy. He has to take everyone along and at the same time promote the young talent in the party. He has build the organization and the same time organize agitational programmes to capture the imagination of the people of Telangana state. Meanwhile, he has a strong rival in the BJP, which has youth with it. The party has a strong organizational backup and a equally strong national leadership. So, pipping past the BJP is his first task, say observers.
Revanth Reddy is all set to take oath as the PCC chief on Wednesday.
