Revanth Reddy refuses to meet Shashi Tharoor
By: Tupaki Desk | 3 Oct 2022 2:33 PM GMTThe firm grip of the so-called 'high command' is all too evident in the way the campaign of Congress presidential candidate Shashi Tharoor is going on. Shashi Tharoor, through a three-time MP, is not the favourite of the Sonia-Rahul-Priyanka triumvirate. The high command prefers the candidature of Mallikarjun Kharge.
The high command wanted a unanimous election of Kharge, but Shashi Tharoor refused to back down from the contest. As a result, there is bound to be polling for the president's post. After all, Shashi Tharoor is part of the 'infamous' G 23, which demanded elections and internal democracy in the party . Hence Tharoor is persona-non-grata for the high command.
So, there is complete non-cooperation from the high command and their supporters. For instance, when Tharoor came to Hyderabad for the campaign, no one came to meet him. In fact, Tharoor is said to have called up TPCC chief Revanth Reddy. But Revanth Reddy refused to meet him saying that one of his relatives had died and that he was in mourning.
In most states, the situation is more or less the same. Tharoor met with a cold response. The PCCs are ignoring his visits and some have point blank refused to meet him. It is now clear that the party is completely toeing the high command's line and is backing Mallikarjun Kharge. At this rate, the victory of Kharge appears to be a foregone conclusion.
