Rohit Vemula Not a Dalit: AP

Rohit Vemula committed suicide in Hyderabad University Hostel following his suspension. Ever since then, There is a debate on the caste of this PhD Scholar. While Family Members claimed Rohit is a Dalit, Official records have differed with it. AP Government appointed District-level Committee declared Rohit Vemula isn't a Dalit in January. Guntur District Collector Kantilal Dande has confirmed it. A controversy erupted due to this reports saying the Scholar belongs to Vaddera Community.
Responsibility was offered to Authorities of Guntur District from where Rohit Vemula hails to validate his caste. In the latest report submitted to Telangana Cops by AP Government, Guntur District Revenue Officials has once again confirmed Rohit Vemula isn't a dalit.
In January 2016, Rohit Vemula was expelled from Hostel. A case of abetment to suicide was registered following his death. Even another case under Prevention of SC/ST Act was filed against then Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya and University of Hyderabad VC Appa Rao. The fresh report might have an impact on these cases.
