Rohith Vemula not a Dalit: Judicial Committee
X
A serious debate took place on the community of Hyderabad Central University (HCU) Research Scholar following his suicide in January this year.

Post the suicide of the 26-Year-Old, Union Minister Sushma Swaraj told Rohith Vemula belongs to Vaddera Community which comes under Other Backward Classes (OBC) category. Then, HRD Minister Smriti Irani appointed the Judicial Committee.

Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) constituted a judicial commission to find out the truth. Former Allahabad High Court judge AK Roopanwal submitted the final report confirming Rohith Vemula doesn't belong to the Scheduled Caste (SC) community and hence he can't be treated as Dalit. The claims of the commission were contrast to the report of Guntur district collector Kantilal Dande stating Rohith was a dalit.

Rohith Vemula's Brother Raja, however, rubbishes the report and claims his family lived like Dalits for years.
