Rs 3 crore for Gabbar Singh title!
By: Tupaki Desk | 23 July 2013 1:30 PM GMTGabbar Singh is the iconic character in Bollywood landmark flick 'Sholay' which was made by Ramesh Sippy. The makers have trademarked the film's title and all the iconic characters in it to claim the royalty.
As a result, Producers have to pay the price for using any of those popular character names of this Hindi blockbuster. Even Bandla Ganesh paid around Rs 25 lakhs for Ramesh Sippy's family for using 'Gabbar Singh' as the title of his cop flick which is actually a remake of Salman Khan's Dabangg.
Surprisingly, 'Sholay' makers have been demanding nearly 15 times to the amount they were paid for 'Gabbar Singh' to allow Pawan Kalyan & Co., to use 'Gabbar Singh 2' as the title for the sequel. The hike in the price is just because of the humongous success the first part has scored. If Powerstar is so particular about using 'Gabbar Singh 2', then the producer has to shell out nearly Rs 3 crore for the title itself.
Sources say, Pawan Kalyan has already asked director Sampath Nandi to come up with an alternative title for saving few crores. Although the title 'Bengal Tiger' came to his notice, the actor wasn't keen on using it and waiting for a powerful title to come his way for taking a final call.
