Prime Minister Narendra Modi is said to be planning a major reshuffle of his cabinet. While he might drop several ministers, who have failed to perform as per expectations, several new faces are likely to be inducted. If and when this happens, it would be the first reshuffle of Modi's cabinet. For the past two-and-a-half years, he has been persisting with the old team only.

However, there are several vacancies caused by the quitting of NDA partners like Akali Dal and Shiv Sena and the death of ministers like Ram Vilas Paswan. Also, several important leaders in the party need to be accommodated in the cabinet. Similarly, alliance partners like JDU and Apna Dal of UP need to be given representation in the cabinet. Several key leaders from various states such as Bihar former deputy CM Sushil Modi, former Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal, former Maharashtra CM Narayan Rane and Jyotiraditya Scindia of Madhya Pradesh, who helped in dethroning Kamal Nath government will be rewarded for their contribution to the party.

Besides these leaders, the names of party general secretary Bhupendra Yadav, party's Bengal incharge Kailas Vijayavargiya Pritam Munde, UP BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh (UP), Varun Gandhi, Bijayanta Panda of Odisha, Minakshi Lekhi (Delhi) are doing rounds. TV baron Rajiv Chandrasekhar and Ladakh's firebrand MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal too might find place in the ministry, according to sources.
