The Indian Railways has claimed that 2019 has been the safety year till now as zero passenger death recorded in this year. In the history of Railways, this is the only year with zero passenger deaths.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal took to Twitter to confirm the same. "Safety First: First time in 166 years, Indian Railways had zero passenger deaths in the current financial year," read the Tweet.

In its plea, the Delhi High Court has sought a response from the Centre on maintaining the high safety and security measure standards in all the railway stations in the country.

To ensure safety, the modern track structure with 60 kg of Pre-stressed Concrete Sleeper(PSC), rails of 90 or higher Ultimate Tensile Strength(UTS), fan-shaped layout turnout on PSC sleepers, steel channel sleepers on girder bridges were used.

The Union Cabinet has also approved the reconstruction of the Railway Board. The Railway Board which will be modified will be comprising one chairperson, four functional members, and few independent members, quite different from the association which has 8 members.
