Model Sangeeta Chatterjee who have links with Red Sandalwood smuggling was arrested by Chittoor Police on Saturday as part of 'Operation Red'. She was produced in court and released on bail within a day. Transit Warrant was sought to shift her to Chittoor on May 18th.
Sangeeta Chatterjee's Husband Lakshman is a red sandalwood smuggler. He used to smuggle red sandalwood to Chennai, Mumbai & Foreign Countries. He was arrested by Cops in June 2014 and lodged in prison till July 2015 under PD Act.
Upon obtaining bail, Lakshman continued smuggling with the help of his close aide Vikram Mohandi. Chittoor Police arrested him in February 2016. Probe revealed Lakshman married Sangeeta Chatterjee five year ago. Sangeeta worked as Air Hostess in Kolkata and have links with few International Smugglers. She even worked as a Model and done few Ads in the past. Sangeeta's hawala transactions were to the tune of Rs 10 crore. She was used to lavish life style. Cops seized her six bank accounts and a locker.
