By: Tupaki Desk | 22 Dec 2019 9:51 AM GMTThe super-rich and high influential personalities hadn't faced any issues due to demonetisation. It was the poor and middle class that suffered a lot because of the note ban announced by PM Narendra Modi in November 2016.
The Income Tax Department reported to the Madras High Court about the assets purchased by Jayalalithaa's close aide VK Sasikala after the note ban. 'Using banned Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes, Sasikala bought two shopping malls, a resort in Puducherry, a software company on Old Mahabalipuram Road, a paper mill, a sugar mill in Oragadam and 50 windmills in Coimbatore,' alleges the IT Department.
IT Department came to know about the assets purchased by Sasikala after demonetisation through her niece J Krishnapriya. On November 9th, 2017, IT Sleuths raided the house of Krishnapriya and recovered photo images of two handwritten papers from her mobile. Those papers contain the details of business establishments purchased by Sasikala after note ban.
Actually, Sasikala received several loose sheets when she was released from Prison on parole and stayed at Krishnapriya's residence. Upon going through them, She instructed Krishnapriya to destroy all of them. However, Krishnapriya took a photograph of one particular loose sheet which contains details of assets purchased by Sasikala. That is how IT Department came to know about the secret deals..!
