SC adjourns next hearing on Kotia border dispute between AP and Odisha
X
The disputes between Andhra Pradesh and Odisha over the Kotia panchayat have reached the top court in the country, Supreme Court. Hearing the case, the Supreme Court has adjourned the next hearing for four weeks.

The issue reached the Supreme Court with the Odisha government moving the court ,claiming that Andhra Pradesh has violated the status quo, that was agreed by the two states.

Visakhapatnam District Collector Vadarevu Vinay Chand has filed a counter-affidavit in the Supreme Court in which he said that the villages fall under Andhra Pradesh and requested the Court to quash the petition filed by the Odisha government.

In the affidavit, the Collector said that Andhra Pradesh has held the Panchayat elections in these villages. These villages fall under the Araku Parliamentary Constituency and Saluru Assembly constituency, the affidavit said.

Kotia panchayat comprises 28 villages that have a population of 4,000 voters. Given the status quo, the voters in these villages have two voter IDs and other benefits.

To see that the voters vote for them, both the states give benefits and announce schemes for the voters. The majority of the voters from these villages belong to the tribal community.

With the Panchayat elections approaching, the Andhra Pradesh government is hoping that the Supreme Court ruled out in favour of Andhra Pradesh. Let us wait and see what happens in the next hearing.
