SC Dismisses PIL On 100% VVPAT Counting
By: Tupaki Desk | 21 May 2019 10:05 AM GMTThe Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a writ petition seeking counting of 100 percent VVPAT Slips in the 2019 Lok Sabha Polls.
A Vacation Bench comprising of Justice Arun Mishra and MR Shah opined people of the country should be allowed to choose the government. The Apex Court termed the PIL moved by technocrats as 'nuisance' and 'ill-timed'. The Bench opined favourable judgement on the PIL would only disrupt the electoral process which has neared the end.
It was on May 7th this year, Supreme Court dismissed the petition moved by 21 Opposition Parties seeking counting of 50 percent VVPAT Slips. The Bench upheld the April 8th judgement of counting of VVPAT Slips attached to five EVMs in every constituency.
If all the VVPAT Slips are counted, Election Results will be delayed by at least five days. Counting of VVPAT slips in Five EVMs could delay the results by 5 hours.
