India's top court, Supreme Court heard a petition filed against the officials of the Maharashtra government over the killing of Tigress, Avni. The killing took place in 2018.

Sangeeta Dogra, an animal rights activist has knocked on the doors of the Supreme Court with a contempt petition. In the petition, Dogra mentioned the orders issued by the SC in 2018 that after killing the tigress celebrations should not be held.

The activist has also submitted pictures of the shooter felicitated at a function. She also presented pictures of villagers celebrating the killing of Tigress Avni.

Earlier, the Supreme Court issued notices to nine officials involved in this and sought evidence on this.

However, after hearing the arguments of both parties, the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court refused to take action against the officials. The activist had withdrawn her petition.

Lawyer, who represented the Maharashtra officials told the SC that the Tigress was killed as per the Court orders and the forest officials were not involved in the celebrations.

Talking about the celebrations, the lawyer said the villagers have celebrated the moment and the officials were nowhere related to the celebrations. Satisfied with the arguments, the SC refused to proceed further.
