The scientists have said that, so far, not less than 126 new variants of the Coronavirus were detected. More shockingly,19 new lineages were detected in India alone.
To detect the new lineages of the pandemic, the researchers have examined more than 240,000 genomes that were collected from 133 nations. The variants are said to be more deadly than the previous strains.
All these, developments have raised doubts about whether the existing and the upcoming potential vaccines to cure the pandemic, will work effectively on the new strains or not.
After the new lineage of Coronavirus was found in the United Kingdom, several countries, including India, have suspended flight services through and fro to the United Kingdom.
On top of that, the union government of India has decided to conduct Covid-219 tests for all the UK returnees and send them to a quarantine facility for 14 days to see that the virus is not spread further.
For this, special arrangements and quarantine facilities were made by the government. The UK returnees will not be kept in the quarantine facilities where the existing Covid-19 strain patients were kept.
